Though I thought there was nothing as nice as watching college football with a cold beer in hand, a Saturday trip to Paris surprisingly took honors.
Jamie and I forgot to get our train tickets in advance. As a result, we drove to Paris ourselves, a mere 3 hour drive. For those of you back home in Memphis, it would remind you of driving to Nashville, but you could replace the truck stops and Dairy Queens with wind mills and farms.
Another surprise was how well Jamie got us there. She drove the whole way as it is her name on our rental (We don't break rules in Europe.....yet). Driving in Europe can be quite difficult as it appears all drivers assume they are the only ones on the road at any given time.
A perfect example of this would be our first experience inside the parking garage. Once we nestled our car in its very tight spot, we noticed an elderly lady next to us begin to park. The lady was driving a small hatchback, go figure, and it was obvious she had been parking in this garage for some time. As she pulled up for a final straightening of the car, she bumped in to the car parked in front of her and then reversed back in the spot as if nothing had happened. She then walked off as if nothing had happened. I guess nothing happened....
Moving on, the very first sign we saw in Paris was stated "Double Tennessee." It was if the Paris community was welcoming Jamie and I with open arms. They had even gone as far as to make signs for us and post them everywhere. I wonder why they chose a cheesburger in the picture instead of one of our recent wedding pics? I have included a picture in this post....
Jamie and I proceeded to the Eiffel Tower by foot, luckily giving up halfway and taking a cab the other half. We also had our first European McDonalds experience as well. It was decent.
The Eiffel Tower was gorgeous, as expected. The line was forever long so we just enjoyed the structure from below. I had previously pictured a structure double the size of the Vegas rendition. It was much bigger, however. The surroundings to the Eiffel tower are incredible. The river, the city, the boats, the lawns, etc. Jamie and I are very excited for a return visit and the chance to go to the top of the tower. We are booking hotel and train ahead of time for our second visit...
Enjoy the pictures and feel free to leave us a comment on your favorite Paris experience!
